The royals often fly with British Airways when travelling abroad

Many of the royal family members fly overseas for trips and official visits – from Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge with their young family to Prince Harry on a solo trip.

What many may not realise is that, apart from the Queen, the royals often fly on commercial flights.

And one airline is their usual choice when heading abroad.

Britain’s flag carrier airline British Airways is the chosen airline for flying abroad.

William and Kate are often seen flying with British Airways

As the flag carrier of the United Kingdom, it is championed by the royal family as a show of solidarity for British brands, something they also do when it comes to their fashion.

William and Kate are often seen flying with British Airways, with the Duchess of Cambridge being spotted on a flight in 2016 to Rotterdam.

They don’t always exclude other airlines, as William was also seen on a Ryanair flight earlier this year.

Sadly, fans of the royal family are unlikely to bump into the Queen themselves.

Queen Elizabeth II has used British Airways since 1952

She no longer takes scheduled flights and instead has chartered planes for her long journeys abroad.

Although she first flew on a British Airways plane in 1952, when she found out about her father’s death, she then proceeded to use the British airline for another fifty years.

It isn’t the only rule that the royal family follow.

The next in line to the throne is rarely allowed to travel with the preceding heir on the same flight, on the occasion that an accident occurred.

However, William broke this when travelling with his son, Prince George when he was just nine months.

He now regularly travels on the same plane with his family despite this long tradition.

It is rumoured that he had to ask his grandmother Queen Elizabeth for permission before joining his son onboard.
